Dysport

Wrinkles happen over time and as you age. You use certain muscles to make facial expressions, and these facial muscles can cause wrinkles. Dysport is a prescription injection made with the active ingredient Botulinum Type A. Dysport minimized the appearance of facial wrinkles and folds, and the FDA approved it in 2009 for the 11s or lines between the eyebrows.

Dysport diffuses or spreads out farther from the injection site than its sister neuromodulator, Botox. This spreading allows a broader area of wrinkles to be treated with fewer injections. Botox and Dysport have different concentrations levels with Dysport diluted with a 3 to 1 split. This dilution makes Dysport excellent for the forehead area. However, Dysport may spread to muscles you do not want to be relaxed, and a professional injector will ensure that this does not happen.

Depending on treatment areas, Dysport takes about 20 to 30 minutes to inject, and results can last up to four months. After treatments, your skincare professionals advise maintenance appointments to keep frown lines away. It is best to space Dysport treatments at least 90 days apart.

Dysport injections are nearly painless, and the side effects are almost minimal when injected by a professional. You can ask for a topic numbing cream to be used on the areas to be treated for comfort, but most clients do not need this. There may be some reactions at the injection sites like swelling and redness, but these reactions disappear within a few hours.

Good candidates for neuromodulators like Dysport should be between 35 and 65, have mild, moderate or severe facial wrinkles that have not reacted well to other wrinkle reduction techniques, be in relatively good health and be without any preexisting skin conditions. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have skin allergies, avoid Dysport and let your skin care professional know about your allergies.
